the Cost of crafting

so i made some really cute mittens that matched a pair of sweater boots i made yesterday i bought some old shoes and some sweaters from the DI yesterday for 20. and i still have a ton of material left over to make more but i won't be getting to that for a bit as i ended up going to insta care and getting 4 stitches in m left pointer finger. I was poking a hole through some material with some scissors and all the sudden it went through. only problem was that my finger was on the other side. so i sliced straight from the side into the nail. some pics are of my finger at the end.

Mine

Ok so Kyler is a little word sponge these days. in the last week he has learned blue, phooh, tiger, and a jillion other words. One particular word we have been working very hard to not let him here is mine. But alas we have failed. On saturda night we were over at kurtis' parents house playing games and it was me who slipped i wasn't talking to him i was talking to kurtis and he happened to hear. and then it was like the seagulls off of Nemo. He spent at least half an hour in the play room just saying it over and over and over to the dog to the chair to the toys. I do have to admit it was rather funny. But we are hoping that he hasn't quite gotten the conatext for it yet. As he just started nursery yesterday and christmas is just around the corner. Not exactly my favorite choice of a word for him to learn right now. oh well My Bad.

What i love about this time of year!

This last weekend i had my annual holiday baking session with my cousins at Kami's house. I love this because it gives us a little of home. I remember when i was pretty little at Aunty Kays house making all sorts of goodies. we are in fact a very gooodie family. While we were making things the question came up of what is the holiday treat that you associate with christmas. So i thought i would write a list of some of my loves of the season.

1. My holiday treat is Fudge. It just says christmas to me. Everyone in my family makes fudge. My mom, aunt and grandma's are my favorite. My grandma even makes some peanutbutter fudge that i like and i HATE peanut butter.

2. Snow & christmas lights- I love how lights glitter off of the snow. And my favorite is right after it has snowed a bunch and then everything is just calm no one is out and its just calm an quite. It makes me think about the night that christ was born and is just very peaceful.

3. Manheim Steamroller Music-This is a tradition from my parents. When we were decorating for christmas we always had this on so now it is what i listen to all season. My favorties are carol of the bells and Stille Notche.

4. Claymation Holiday Cartoons- I actually like to watch these on thanksgiving night. Which stems back from when i was rather young and they used to show them on tv then. Kurtis got me the box set for christmas the first year we were married. Now i'm teaching kyler to love them. My favorite is actually Santa Claus is Coming to town and then of course Rudolf the red Nosed Reindeer.

5. The lights from the chirstmas tree. I love the light that a tree gives its possibly my favorite thing inside. combine it with the music and i could just sit and read a book next to the tree all night.

6. shopping for everyone- I actaully love shopping for everyone. I always try to be done by thanksgiving now as we are usually either going up for thanksgiving and thats a lot cheaper than shipping or just because i prefer to spend the holiday season relaxed with the presents under the tree when i put it up. But i love getting my list all ready and crossing things off of it. And just finding that present that with make someone happy or their eyes light up.

7. Decorating- I don't have a ton of decorations but my entire house is green ( the lady we bought it from really really liked green.) so christmas is very nice and easy to decorate for. this year i've kinda done a mountain cabin christmas. Lots of pine and dark colors. hopefully i can continue to add to my decore through the years.

8. Family- It just feels like we are more in contact with family that we usually aren't as in contact with during this time of year. This christmas is a little harder for me because its our second in a row away from my family. We did it this way becuase we want to be on track with everyone else. All my cousins go up ever other year so we wanted to be ontrack with them. I love christmas at home but kurtis' family does a really good christmas too. I wish i could combine christmas eve games here with grandma's birthday their and then have christmas day there. But i love it both ways.

9. Fuzzy PJ's on Kyler- something about his fuzzy pjs makes me think of christmas morning.

10. Stalkings by the fire when we looked at our house i loved that it had a fireplace with a mantle. So i acutally do get to hang my stalkings by the fireplace. I also can't wait till i get our new stalkings. My mom sent us some this year that are just the red and white ones but she had my aunt embroider our names on them. But i'm holding out for the knitted ones i grew up with. a lady acutally makes them and they each have your name on them and a picture of something example mine is a snow man, i'm going to get kyler a puppy with a christmas hat on and i'm not sure what for kurtis yet maybe a santa or a rocking horse. Anyway my aunt has these foreveryone in her family and extended and their mantle is getting pretty full. But i love these stalkings so mom and i are working on getting each of our houses a set for us. My mom already has them for our immediate family but not kurtis or kyler yet.

11. my christmas skirt- My grandma made me a christmas tree skirt last year for christmas which i love. I was actually trying to find one last year and figured i'd wait till after christmas to see what i could find. And then i got this one and absolutly love it. my moms was made by my grandma too so it reminds me of home. Plus its is now offically a family heirloom.

Mayo

I just was impressed with myself for actually making mayo on from scratch that i needed to blog about it. Problem is i didn't get to take a picture of it because we used it before i charged my camera. looks and tastes good. It has a slight oil flavor but you make it from ingredients that i at least already had in the house.

1 egg
2 T lemon juice
dash of tabasco sauce. I didn't have this so i used vinegar since thats about all i taste in tabasco. I might add some hot sauce to it next time.

You mix this up with a food processor or i did it with a hand jucie blender thing and when its smooth you start adding 1 1/4 cup vegetable oil to it slowly while you keep blending it.

(you have to use vegetable oil they said or it won't turn out, and the lemon juice cooks the egg so you don't get sick)

So if you run out of mayo or just don't want to go to the store try it out. You can add your own flavors to it too. i got it from Homecooking the blog on my blog watch. Its a lady from Helena MT who just likes to cook. I really like a lot of her recipies and have made a few before she has even like her new chocolate mousse cake i found that one a few years ago. But its fun for ideas.

Thanksgiving in Cali

This year we were supposed to go to Montana for Tday but my parents were a a family friends son's wedding in San Diego so we decided that we would go with Kurtis' family to California for Kacie's soccer tournament. We spent thanksgiving day at Disney Land and had a lot of fun. It was the first time for both Kyler and I. Kurtis hasn't been since right after graduation High school so it was a lot of fun for our whole family. According to everone else it wasn't to increadibly busy. We got to go on all the major rides at least once i got to ride screaming 2x. We had a hopper pass so we spent the morning in disney land the afternoon is california adventure and the night at disneyland. My favorite rides were space mountain and screaming. Kylers was probably Its a small world he loved all of the different things there. Kurtis' favorite was Soaring over California. That was really cool i have to say. anyway. Here are some pics.

This was our trip to the beach we went to Corona de something it wasn't busy at all so it was nice. we were only there for about an hour or so it seemed to me but i could spend all day at the beach and still not have enough. Kyler loved the sand and the seagulls but wasn't sure about the water. It probably didn't help that it was pretty cool outside and the water was freezing.

Turkey day treats and kyler

Yesterday Kurtis had a class till 9 for work so kyler and i were on are own all day. man did i get bored so i decided to make some treats that i saw on Studio 5(this is also the show that i won the new moon tickets on) any way here they are not great pics. But the acorns are made with PB and Chocolate with almonds and pretzels. The leaves are sugar cookies. These are some more acorns and my turkey farm. I adapted these a bit the faces are supposed to be made out of candy corn but i couldn't find any for sale in the 3 places i went so i gave up and used cashews instead i think they still look great. The wattels are made from red hots and the body is a chocolate creme from wal mart $1 for all these plus there were a few left over. The feathers are sugar cookes from the batch i made with the leaves and the feet are pretzles.
The last creation didn't turn out as well as i would have liked but probably becuse i improvised a bit i made some round sugar cookies and covered them with chocolate the tops are chocolate covered marshmallows and the black band is sum ribbon and the gold buckle is a laughy taffy i rolled out and cut into 8 pieces. either way i figure they will work for my visiting teaching if i can keep them around long enough.
This is kylers had. His cousin Sarah made it for him during conference, but he has just recently started to like it. He looks like he is about 3 to me in all these pictures
I think this one looks like he's trying to be cool but really he's just pulling off the hat.

My Little boy is getting to Big to fast.
This is his new hair cut i haven't been able to spike it like the lady that cut it did. Probably becuas i didn't acutally see it when it was done. I was at the movie when Kurtis took him for the hair cut so he was in bed when i got home. He looks a lot older to me now. Thank goodness for cookie cutters hair salon for kids kurtis said the had an apointment for and were home by 6:10. She was that fast and he didn't even scream at her. As far as i'm concerned we can go there every time so i don't have to fight him to get his hair cut.

NEW MOON!!! LOVED IT

Ok I just got home from the movie and am so glad i have tickets for Friday. It was amazing. First let me start with what we had to do to get in. I was given a special ticket which i had to exchange for the real ticket at the theater. It was on a first come first serve basis and they said that they gave out more tickets than there were seats available to insure that it was a sell out. Well after we got our tickets and picked our seats we started the process of getting into the movie. We were searched and gone over with a wand and had our bags checked to make sure that there were no cameras or any other form of electrical device that could take video or picture. Luckily we were some of the first into the theater so we didn't have to wait long. after that we just had to wait for an hour for the movie to start and once you were in you couldn't go out. any now the movie.

With out giving you any spoilers it was amazing. The acting the cinematography, the visuals the screen play it was all great. there were a few parts where the digital cinematograpy was kinda hoaky but over all it was just flat amazing. Everyone should see it the action in this one is AMAZING. and taylor lautner is jacob black. he does a great job. Oh and by the way kudos on the native's casting. my one critique of the first movie was the way they talked about the rez this one since the native's are actually natives was spot on. it actually kinda made me miss the rez.

Once again much better than what i expected and so excited to see it again.

The Suprise Getaway

Last week Kurtis suprised me with an overnight get away to Park City. Tuesday morning he left for work and gave me a envolope to open after he left. It had a set of instructions for me to follow.

1. To pack kyler a bag for over night.
2. To pack me a bag for over night.
3. To go to red box and pick up two movies of my choice
4. That he would be home from work around 12:30 and i need to have all this done by then.
5. to relax as much as possible and that i wasn't allowed to do any cleaning.

Anyway i was so excited i had no idea where we were going if we were all going or not. So when he got home he got a bag ready and we left. Went and dropped of Kyler and headed out. he told me where we were going after we got into salt lake. We stayed at this nice little bed and breakfast in park city downtown. It was really homey and the owner Deb was so nice. her policy is that she wants to give you as much time to yourselves as possible so she leaves the doors open for ya and lets you know when breakfast is ready the next day. She's an outdoor enthusiast so she'll take you on excersions if you want to. We were just there to relax though. Park city is a crazy place to be in the winter becuse of the skiing. But we happened to be there right before the season so it was perfect we were the only ones staying at the B&B that night so it was nice a quiet.
We decided to go downtown for dinner to place called Mustang's. we probably wouldn't have except Deb brough us one of the little town magazines that had a bunch of coupons for dining in it. This is a Fine dining resturant. Kurtis doesn't much like these because he likes to order what he wants with a salad and all the sides. But it was really good food. here are a few pics of us a dinner.

and this is what we ordered for dinner its Shrimp scampi with freash basil and pinenuts. The shrimp is acutally tiger prawns so they were huge and yummy.

this is kurtis trying to figure out why a tree was sticking out of his dinner. Lol. It was soooo good thought i loved it the flavor was amazing. I do wish there was a little bit more lemony flavor but other than that heavenly. we were a bit suprised too because the protions sizes were huge. I didn't even eat all of mine and we were stuffed. It ended up costing us like 42. including the tip because we had the buy one entree get the 2nd one free for there so it wasn't to bad.

All in all a wonderful getaway i love kurtis so much and am so glad that he is sweet enough to think of these little suprises. I'm so lucky to have him as a husband.

This is from my cousins blog it is all comprised of her family. Her sister put it together. I loved it so i thought i would share. Though no one in my immediate family has served yet in the armed services i have a lot of friends and relatives that have. I tend to get choked up when there are special services for and of the branches and i am absolutly appreciateive for the men and woman in the services. I do have a uncle that is serving right now and two cousins from the same family. Thanks to all our veterans and for all those that are currently serving. Including all of my friends husbands, brothers, sisters and other family.

My attempt as sewing!!!

Ok I was bored and decided i needed a project and figured i would get out my sewing machine for the second time in 2 years. I didn't want to do anything to hard but nothing so easy i would be done really fast. So i decided to make kyler some PJ's. The problem was that the pattern i got at is smallest size was for a kid around 3. So the neck on the top is a little big and they are both a little long. but they seem to work good enough and he seems to like them. Overall i'm pretty happy that they at least turned out looking like actual pjs. Here are a few pics.

Happy Halloween

We got snow yesterday for the first time of the year and i decided that on monday i wanted to get some picks of kyler outside in his halloween costume while it still looks like Fall so here ya go.

This is my favorite one. I had great ideas for pics but couldn't get him to sit down long enough to get any of them. He had just gotten finished telling me what a cow says.

And here is my little nuggle been and his beloved puppy.
